Joel Santana is focused on guiding South Africa to the Confederations Cup final despite the hype about his battle with his countrymen.

Sheffield United`s Matt Kilgallon has warned the Championship play-off winners will be decided by whichever team holds their nerve The former Sunderland man missed last weekend's home win over QPR due to a one-match ban for his red card in the victory at Birmingham the week previously.

He is expected to go straight back into the starting line-up after withdrawing from Scotland the B international against Northern Ireland in midweek in order to prepare for the Blades showdown.

On-loan Watford midfielder Lee Williamson remains absent and will miss both legs of the semi-final due as he serves a three-match ban.

The 25-year-old endured play-off final heartache with Leeds at the Millennium Stadium against Watford in 2006, while Blades team-mates Leigh Bromby, Chris Morgan and Darius Henderson have been involved in previous play-off campaigns.

Kilgallon told the Star: "Everyone knows what's at stake. They are massive occasions.

"I've been there before and they are very tense because nobody wants to make a mistake. Everyone, every single player out there is like that.

O`Hanlon missed the final two games of the regular season after picking up a knee injury against Walsall and while he is back in training he is expected to miss out.

His absence is a big loss for manager Roberto Di Matteo and means utility man Jude Stirling will have to fill in alongside Miguel Angel Llera in the centre of defence.

Winger Jason Puncheon missed the 1-0 defeat at Hereford last weekend with a slight ankle problem but is fit enough to return while top scorer Aaron Wilbraham should also start at Glanford Park.

Wilbraham was rested for the trip to face the already relegated Bulls but will lead the line alongside Sam Baldock. Fellow forward Ali Gerba is likely to again miss out thanks to his knee injury.The Dons boss has made no secret of his ambition to lead his charges to a third-place finish, but his side currently sit four points adrift of fourth placed United. Calderwood admitted a win at Tannadice would do his side's European hopes a world of good.

players dominated the Premier League Team of the Year as named by the Professional Footballers' Association.

Veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs celebrated being named player of the year by headlining a six-strong group of Old Trafford stars in the annual selection.

Defenders Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, winger Cristiano Ronaldo and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar were all named in the all-star XI.

However, there was no place in the side for England striker Wayne Rooney.

Elsewhere, United's main title rivals Liverpool had two players honoured after captain Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres were named.

Portsmouth and England defender Glen Johnson was given the nod at right-back, while there was a surprise inclusion for Chelsea Nicolas Anelka up front.

PFA young player of the year Ashley Young of Aston Villa completed the line-up.

"Nobody is unstoppable. I've played in the Brazilian national side for a long time and we've never thought we were unstoppable. When I was with Barca we played great football but we weren't either. Unstoppable teams don't exist.

"They play at a high level both on and off the ball. In my Barca days, I remember we put on the pressure when we lost the ball. They still do this now and the Chelsea players are aware of it.

"But I've never been with a team like Chelsea, a team that wants to win more. Some of the players have won just about everything, but they never give up fighting.

"We have some great individual players, but we are also a great team. Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry are on great form, and Nicolas Anelka is regaining his form.

"What makes us a strong side is our desire to win the Champions League. Our weaknesses depend on the day. We're capable of going to Camp Nou and not losing.

In 1886, a group of workers at the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory formed a team called Dial Square, renaming themselves to Royal Arsenal shortly afterwards. The team turned professional in 1891 and changed its name again to Woolwich Arsenal, eventually dropping the prefix completely in 1913 when they moved to Highbury.

The Gunners joined the Second Division in 1893 and were promoted in 1904. Success eluded them until the arrival of Herbert Chapman in 1925 when they won the league five times between 1930 and 1938 and the FA Cup twice. Chapman, who died in 1934, was also behind the renaming of the nearest London Underground station to Arsenal.

Arsenal had to wait until the 1970s for their next period of success. But their first double in 1971 was followed by several near-misses - finishing second in 1972, and losing three FA Cup finals and the 1980 European Cup Winners' Cup final.

It was not until the return of ex-player George Graham as manager that the club rose to greatness again - winning six trophies during his nine-year reign. That included League Cup success in 1987 and 1993, the FA Cup in 1993, the league title in 1989 and 1991 and European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994. Arsenal hold the enviable record of the most consecutive seasons in the top flight - 80 at present.

Carlos Villanueva is not exactly sure of his immediate future at Rovers after his parent club have revealed they have received two offers for him.

The 23-year-old joined Blackburn last summer in a season-long loan move from Chilean side Audax Italiano, there was an option to buy the player at the end of the season, but nothing has been sorted out yet for the forward who has made just 18 appearances this season and scored two goals.

Villanueva has made no secret of the fact that he wishes to remain at Ewood Park and Audax Italiano chairman Claudio Tessa has no objection.

But Tessa claims that a host of anonymous clubs are interested in the players services, he told La Tercera: "We have already received several offers for his transfer. Two of them are concrete, one is from Europe and the other is from another continent.

'Manchester United never had to get out of first gear to beat Portsmouth. Without being disrespectful to Pompey this was by far the easiest of the week`s matches for the 3 title chasers.

That win for United has put them in a pretty much insurmountable position now as they can afford to lose a match and still take the title back to Old Trafford. They could lose to Arsenal at home in a few weeks and still win the trophy. That`s suggesting that Liverpool and Chelsea will win all their games and I certainly don`t think that`s a given and didn`t before the midweek games.

I`d also expect Manchester United to beat Tottenham this weekend despite their huge Champions League clash with Arsenal looming large. The cushion they now have at the top should allow them to relax more and after a recent slump in form I think they are due a big performance.

Spurs certainly won`t be easy to beat as they proved in the Carling Cup final and are one of the Premier League form teams. However, despite their good form and massive improvements, I`d expect United to pick up another 3 points towards the title.'

We need to start getting used to the idea that Guus Hiddink will not stay on as Chelsea manager, so there will be (yet another) new man on the Chelsea touchline next season. Lindy has set us a challenge to say what we feel about Chelsea`s managerial prospects. But rather than write about what we would like to happen, I thought I would write about what I think is likely to happen. And, from what we read, the name that keeps cropping up is Milan`s coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

We`ll pass over the rather banal revelations from David Beckham that Carlo Ancelotti is learning English although I can`t help point out that, if the purpose of this was to help communications between coach and player, surely it is up to Beckham to learn Italian. Then again, in his time at Real Madrid Beckham failed to learn Spanish.

Very bad news for Wilfred Bouma. He has had a set-back in his rehab and will now definitely be out for the rest of the season. On the flip side of that, there are not many games left, it would be asking a massive amount for him to come straight back to his best and strangely, Nicky Shorey is actually starting to play like the bloke I thought we`d signed in the first place. Hopefully Freddie can just get sorted and come back for pre-season then start again - ideally as good as new!

We get drawn against hometown team Malaga in the Peace Cup, and also Celtic, which obviously creates the odd headline relating to MON. Celtic still need to win their league in order to qualify; I am not 100% sure why and nowhere seems to explain it, but I assume it is relating to CL qualifiers.

ZABALETA - 6 clearly didn't look fit and didn't really cope all afternoon.

ONUOHA - 8 outstanding again for city and only for him we may not have won this game.

DUNNE - 7 played better in the last 20 mins to keep Albion at bay and made some good tackles late on.

BRIDGE - 5 the games seem to keep passing him by and he as well doesn't look fit.

DE JONG - 6 yet again played to deep even for a defensive midfielder and only passed the ball forwards twice.

KOMPANY - 6 like De Jong really he plays to deep and seems to give away needless fouls in dangerous places all the time.

IRELAND - 6 not his best game and he looks drained. A great run and pass at the end to Sturridge though to make the points safe.

ELANO - 8 was Eastlands MOTM but I would go for Ned as MOTM but Elano had a great game and I'm baffled why he got subbed again for the headless chicken.

Stoke City boss, Tony Pulis will be running in the London Marathon to help the Donna Louise Trust.

Coming hot on the heels of Rory Delap's announcement that he is going to be cycling from Edinburgh to Newcastle-on-Tyne in June in aid of the same local children's hospice, Tone's decision to run the 26 mile course is also just as impressive.

The run takes place on Sunday April 26th, just the day after the Potters are in the capital for the match at Fulham. But we'll have to wait and see if he takes to the streets wearing his trademark baseball cap.

Chelsea's interim coach Guus Hiddink is already working on a way to combat Barcelona's attacking prowess without a recognised left-back. Ashley Cole's second-half booking in Tuesday night's astonishing 4-4 draw with Liverpool has left the Blues with a real headache when Chelsea meet the Spanish giants in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Nou Camp in a fortnight. The club's decision to sell Wayne Bridge to Manchester City in the January transfer window and Paulo Ferreira's subsequent knee ligament injury have conspired, along with Cole's booking, to leave Hiddink searching within his ranks for a player capable of stopping Barca's Lionel Messi. "The left-back situation might cause problems but we have time to think how we might resolve it," said Hiddink. "Barcelona are a very advanced team with very skilful players. They know how to handle the pace. I like their philosophy of football."

Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced Saturday's win at Sunderland will prove to be a watershed in Manchester United's season. After sweeping all before them on their return from the Club World Cup in Japan, United have suddenly hit an alarming slump. Ferguson admitted goalkeeper Ben Foster made another mistake at the Stadium of Light. But it was the only thing that went wrong in a narrow 2-1 win at Sunderland that United's wily manager feels will mark the point in his side's season when confidence began to return. "It was a watershed," said Ferguson. "The back four played very well and restricted Sunderland to only a few chances because we dealt with their crosses terrifically. Ben is young and inexperienced but apart from that one mistake, the defence was very good. Hopefully from now on we will be fine."

O'Neill stormed on to the pitch at the full-time whistle to remonstrate with referee Mike Riley, who the Villa boss later claimed to have missed a foul on Ashley Young in the build-up to the winning goal.

He said after the match: "The officials also got three offside decisions wrong when we were clean through."

A statement on the FA's website confirmed that O'Neill has been charged for his behaviour at the final whistle, and not for his post-match comments.

Bayern defender Daniel van Buyten will miss the trip to Spain because of personal reasons.

"The team left on Tuesday midday without Van Buyten for the match against Barcelona," the club said on their website.

Van Buyten is the second central defender to be ruled out, after Brazilian Lucio picked up a muscle injury in Bayern's 5-1 defeat against Wolfsburg on Saturday and will be out for several days.

Coach Juergen Klinsmann is expected to rely on Martin Demichelis and 19-year-old Brazilian Breno to harness the Spaniards' pace.

He also brought in Holger Badstuber from the reserve team."We are going to have to be at our very highest level to score goals and we know that at this level your mistakes are punished ruthlessly, especially against a team like Bayern."

Although Ferguson said he did not expect the 30-year-old to feature, he stopped short of saying Ferdinand would definitely miss the game and the defender remains in the squad.

The Scot has been known to talk pessimistically about certain players' chances of featuring as a psychological ploy before picking them for big games.

He said: "Most of the players will be okay and we can bring some fresh faces in but Rio, no, I don't think so."

Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes all return for the European tie after the suspended trio sat out the victory over Villa.

Park Ji-Sung is also likely to come back into the starting line-up, while Ferguson will make a late decision on the fitness of Ryan Giggs.

Arsenal beat Manchester City 2-0 on Saturday and Wenger is looking forward to his men producing another good performance at El Madrigal.

"I believe it is always good to win before you go into another big game. It lifts the confidence and belief of the team a bit more," he said on Sky Sports News.

"We are on a good run and we feel we are consistent, which is a good basis to go into a Champions League game."

Luckily for Arsenal Adebayor is back from injury, as Robin van Persie has been ruled out. Likely to lead the line on his own, he quickly found his scoring touch at the weekend.

Man U are still the favourites in my opinion but now Liverpool have good momentum and if they can go into that final game with this confidence, its going to put a lot of pressure on United to keep winning.Our next game is against United on Saturday, Rafa Benitez said he thought Liverpool had showed other teams how to beat Man U, but I don't think there is any truth in that. I am not at all sure that you can watch one game and learn how to beat them.You would have to have a bit of luck on the day and quality in your own play. That's what happened with Liverpool. You have to remember that Liverpool have some of the best players in the world and they showed it at Old Trafford.and although they have just lost I don't think that affects whether it is a good or a bad time to play them. They have such good quality, strength and depth, and any time you play them there is going to be the possibility for them to hurt you. People have said there might be a backlash, but I think they just play every game the same: They try and win, and it will be no different in the game against us.

The result of the Manchester United versus Liverpool game was fantastic for two reasons; firstly because I am a Liverpool fan, I have friends there, and was desperate for them to get a result. And secondly; for the good of the Premier League. United would have been running away with it all if they had won, but now its game on!

Gerrard agreed a two-year extension to his contract on Friday, believed to be worth around £130,000 a week, which means he will be at the club until 2013. Polish sports minister Miroslaw Drzewiecki said Poland would do everything it could to host the tournament with Ukraine.

"Ukraine is the only partner for us, it can count on our full support and cooperation," Drzewiecki said in a statement.

Wigan manager Steve Bruce's main concern as the season enters its final two months is preventing his players' focus drifting towards thoughts of their summer holidays.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes believes a number of his players can learn from the shining example set by Stephen Ireland.City midfielder Ireland has been in inspirational form this season after putting the controversies of recent years behind him to concentrate on his football.

The 22-year-old Irishman made more headlines off the field than on last season, most infamously after telling a white lie about the death of a grandmother.

Now those problems seem to be in the past and Ireland was again superb as City secured a place in the last eight of the UEFA Cup in Aalborg on Thursday.

"He is having an outstanding season," said Hughes. "We keep mentioning the season he is having but he is a guy that has a real drive and determination to have an impact on every game he plays.

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol struggles with an ankle injury ahead of the clash with Malaga.Barca full-back Daniel Alves, meanwhile, has said that he would like to spend the rest of his career at the club.

Hamburg boss Martin Jol feels his side will be up against one of the best six sides in England when they face Manchester City in the UEFA Cup.The second leg at Eastlands will mean a return to England for former Tottenham manager Jol, while the game will also mean a reunion with former team-mates for City midfielders Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong.

Kompany left the HSV-Arena for the Premier League last August, with De Jong making the same move in the January transfer window.

The duo are just two of a host of new faces City boss Mark Hughes has brought into the club, and Jol feels they are now a force to be reckoned with.
